Douglas A.S. Paterson, Q.C.

Doug is our firm’s founding partner. A life-long resident of Brandon, Doug graduated from Brandon University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He earned his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1972, and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1973, after Articling with Manitoba Public Insurance, where he worked for 3 years. Doug was granted the Queen’s Counsel designation in 1984. Today, Doug practices in the areas of civil litigation, corporate and commercial law, real estate, wills and estates, administrative law, banking and insurance. He has appeared in all the possible Courts including the Court of Queen's Bench, Manitoba Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

A constant advocate for Brandon, he was elected School Trustee in 1990 being chair for 2 years. Doug was first elected City Councillor for Ward 1 in 1998, and continued until 2010. In addition to serving as City Councillor, Doug has also been a board member and volunteer for numerous community organizations, including President of Brandon Chamber of Commerce and Vice-President of the Keystone Centre.

Outside of his firm Paterson Patterson Wyman & Abel Doug is an avid sportsman, who enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, kayaking, and gardening. He also enjoys winter sports - hockey for 47 years and into the future cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Doug’s greatest love however is boating, and during the summer months he can be found on Clear Lake, accompanied by his wife Sandi and their son Scot.
